ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS

  • What are the eligibility requirements?

    To qualify for Golden Age Housing™, you must:

    • Be 60 years of age or older
    • Be able to manage your own activities of daily living (ADL) independently
    • Be mobile without extensive assistance
    • Pass background check (no violent criminal history)
    • Demonstrate ability to pay monthly rent
    • Be compatible with shared living environment
    • Not require skilled nursing or medical care

    Do you accept pets?

    Pet policies vary by property. Some of our homes are pet-friendly, especially for small dogs and cats. Please inquire about specific property pet policies when scheduling your tour.

    Can couples live together?

    Yes! We can accommodate couples in private rooms. Contact us to discuss availability and pricing for couples.

    What if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?

    Residents are responsible for their own meals and groceries. Our house managers can help coordinate grocery delivery, but residents manage their own dietary needs and meal preparation.

What does “non-medical house manager support” mean?

Our house managers visit regularly (weekly or bi-weekly) to ensure the household runs smoothly. They provide:

    • Grocery ordering and light meal coordination
    • Medication reminders (non-medical – you manage your own medications)
    • Assistance with scheduling appointments
    • Household organization and oversight
    • Ensuring common areas remain clean and functional
    • Coordination of maintenance needs

Important: House managers are NOT live-in caregivers and do NOT provide medical care or hands-on personal assistance.

What do I handle independently?

Golden Age Housing™ is for independent seniors. You are responsible for:

    • Your own meals and grocery shopping
    • Personal housekeeping and laundry
    • Medication management (taking your own medications)
    • Personal care and hygiene
    • Medical appointments and transportation
    • Managing your own health care

Can I get additional services if needed?

Yes! We offer optional add-on services for an additional fee:

    • Housekeeping service
    • Grocery shopping and delivery
    • Laundry service
    • Meal preparation assistance
    • Transportation coordination
    • Light personal assistance

Is there 24/7 staff on-site?

No. House managers visit regularly but are not live-in staff. Residents are expected to be independent and able to handle emergencies. All homes have emergency contact procedures in place.

How many people live in each home?

Typically 3-6 seniors share each Golden Age Housing™ home, depending on the size of the property.

Are the rooms private or shared?

Both options are available depending on the property:

    • Private rooms: Your own bedroom (shared common areas)
    • Semi-private rooms: Share a bedroom with one compatible housemate

Pricing varies by room type.

Can I bring my own furniture?

Bedrooms come furnished with bed, dresser, and basic furniture. You’re welcome to bring personal items, photos, and small furniture pieces to personalize your space. Common areas are furnished and shared by all residents.

What do the homes look like?

Our Golden Age Housing™ properties are real single-family homes in residential Houston neighborhoods—not institutional facilities. They feature:

    • Comfortable living rooms with TV and seating
    • Fully equipped kitchens
    • Dining areas
    • Private or semi-private bedrooms
    • Shared bathrooms
    • Laundry facilities
    • Outdoor spaces (many properties)

Can I have visitors?

Yes! Family and friends are welcome to visit during reasonable hours. We encourage family involvement and connection.

COSTS & PAYMENT

How much does Golden Age Housing™ cost?

Monthly rent ranges from $800 – $5,000 depending on:

    • Location of property
    • Private vs. semi-private room
    • Specific amenities included

This is typically 40-60% less expensive than assisted living facilities in Houston.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept:

    • Private pay (personal funds, retirement income)
    • SSI (select placements, case-by-case)
    • Veteran benefits (case-by-case evaluation)
    • Direct bank transfer or check

Do you accept Medicaid or Medicare?

We currently do not accept Medicaid or Medicare as direct payment. However, if you receive SSI (Supplemental Security Income), we evaluate placements on a case-by-case basis.

Are there any additional fees?

Monthly rent is all-inclusive for standard services. Additional fees may apply for:

    • Optional add-on services (housekeeping, meals, etc.)
    • Security deposit (typically one month’s rent)
    • Personal items and groceries

We believe in transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

Is there a deposit required?

Yes, typically one month’s rent as a security deposit. This is refundable upon move-out, subject to property condition.

How long does the placement process take?

Most placements are completed within 1-2 weeks after finding the right home. This is much faster than traditional assisted living (often 30-90 days waitlist).

How do you match residents with compatible housemates?

We conduct thorough interviews to understand:

    • Your lifestyle preferences and daily routines
    • Your interests, hobbies, and social preferences
    • Sleep schedules and activity levels
    • Personality traits and communication style
    • Any specific needs or accommodations

We carefully match based on compatibility to ensure harmonious living.

Can I tour homes before deciding?

Absolutely! We encourage you to tour 2-3 homes, meet current residents, and see the environment before making a decision. Tours are available during regular hours.

What if I don’t get along with my housemates?

While we work hard to create compatible matches, we understand that sometimes living arrangements don’t work out. We can help you relocate to another available home in our network if needed.

Is there a lease or contract?

Yes. You’ll sign a standard residential lease agreement that outlines:

    • Monthly rent amount
    • Payment terms
    • House rules and expectations
    • Move-in and move-out procedures
    • Responsibilities of residents and property owner

Lease terms are typically month-to-month or 6-12 month agreements.

DAILY LIFE & COMMUNITY

What is daily life like in a Golden Age Housing™ home?

Daily life is similar to living in your own home, but with companions:

    • Wake up on your own schedule
    • Prepare your own meals (or eat together with housemates)
    • Participate in shared activities (optional)
    • Enjoy common areas for socializing or privacy in your room
    • Come and go as you please
    • Maintain your independence while having built-in community

Are meals provided?

No. Residents are responsible for their own meals and groceries. Many housemates enjoy cooking and eating together, but this is optional and arranged among residents. Our house managers can help coordinate grocery delivery if needed.

What activities are available?

Social activities vary by household and may include:

    • Card games, board games, puzzles
    • Movie nights
    • Shared meals or cooking
    • Holiday celebrations
    • Community outings (arranged by residents)
    • Social gatherings with family and friends

Activities are coordinated by house managers and residents based on interests.

Can I come and go as I please?

Yes! Golden Age Housing™ is for independent seniors. You have complete freedom to:

    • Leave the home anytime

    • Visit family and friends
    • Take trips or vacations
    • Maintain your normal routines

There are no restrictions on your freedom or independence.

What are the house rules?

House rules vary by property but generally include:

    • Respect for other residents’ privacy and space
    • Quiet hours (typically 10pm – 7am)
    • Keeping common areas clean and tidy
    • No smoking indoors (some properties allow outdoor smoking)
    • Guest policies and visiting hours
    • Safety and security guidelines

Specific house rules will be provided during your tour and in your lease agreement.

HEALTH & SAFETY

What happens if I have a medical emergency?

All residents should have:

    • Emergency contact information posted
    • Personal emergency response system (if desired)
    • Access to 911 emergency services

House managers are not on-site 24/7, so residents must be able to call for help in emergencies. We recommend personal alert systems for added security.

Do you provide medical care?

No. Golden Age Housing™ is a non-medical housing model. We do not provide:

    • Skilled nursing care
    • Medication administration
    • Hands-on personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting)
    • Medical treatment or wound care

If you need these services, please ask about our Bridge Care program.

What if my care needs change?

If your health needs increase beyond independent living, we’ll work with you and your family to:

    • Assess your current needs
    • Explore care options (Bridge Care, assisted living, etc.)
    • Coordinate transition to appropriate level of care
    • Help find suitable alternatives

Our goal is to support you in finding the right solution.

Are homes safe and accessible?

All Golden Age Housing™ properties meet safety standards including:

    • Working smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
    • Adequate lighting
    • Safe walking surfaces
    • Secure entrances
    • Emergency contact procedures

Some homes have accessibility features like handrails, walk-in showers, and single-story layouts. Please inquire about specific accessibility needs.

What about COVID-19 and illness prevention?

We follow CDC and local health guidelines for illness prevention. Residents are responsible for their own health decisions regarding vaccination, masking, and social distancing.

How can my family stay involved?

We encourage family involvement! Families can:

    • Visit during reasonable hours
    • Participate in household activities and celebrations
    • Communicate directly with house managers
    • Receive regular updates on your loved one’s well-being
    • Attend family meetings if requested

How will I know my loved one is okay?

    • House managers conduct regular check-ins
    • You can call or visit your loved one anytime

    • House managers will contact family for any concerns

Can my parent try it before committing long-term?

Yes! We offer flexible lease terms. Many residents start with month-to-month arrangements or short-term trials before committing to longer leases.

What if my loved one has early-stage dementia?

Golden Age Housing™ is designed for independent seniors. If your loved one has early-stage dementia but is still relatively independent, we may be able to accommodate them. However, our Bridge Care program is specifically designed for dementia care with live-in caregivers. Contact us to discuss the best fit.

    • Small group setting (typically 4-6 residents)
